This film is adapted from King's early story "The Man Who Loved Flowers" from August 1977 issue of Gallery magazine. Then Stephen King just finished publishing stories in Cavalier and Penthouse and went to write stories for Gallery until 1982. This was his first sale to Gallery.

Independent filmmaker and former Ohio University student Justin Choma Zimmerman plans on shooting "The Man Who Loved Flowers" from Stephen King's Nightshift in Maine in 2005. Stephen King's short story was first released in Gallery Magazine in 1977.
Zimmerman has already won several awards at various film festivals. Best Non-Fiction Short at the 2002 Chicago IFP Film Festival and Best Documentary, OUStuff 2003, for his short film "One of Five". Zimmerman's new project titled "Fireland" is currently in pre-production.
